In 2014, thanks to generous donors Hope in the Harvest Missions International purchased a much needed used UN Toyota Landcruiser (ambulance style with benches in the back). It served the mission very very very well over these last 7 years years…taking people to do outreach for FGW in villages, picking people up from the airport, taking our missionaries to church visits, hospital visits and house visits, carrying product to sell to Monrovia and then carrying food supplies back up to Ganta. The vehicle has been a vital part of our outreach efforts to minister to our communities here in Liberia.
But on April 1st, our missionaries woke up to shouts of fire around midnight. After going outside they went out to the field and saw our Hope in the Harvest mission’s jeep in a blaze, with 3 other vehicles sitting nearby. Students from the dormitories had already started running around trying to put the fires out and keep the fire from spreading. By the grace of God, we were able to get our LICC bus and truck out, but the old jeep and the van (which isn’t even ours but belongs to another mission- Hope2Liberia) were a lost cause. We do not know how the fire started. There was no fire department to call, all we could do was try dumping sand on it, pouring water around the cars to keep the fire contained, and pray pray pray!
This was no doubt a huge loss but at the same time we see God’s grace was abounding even amidst the distress of that evening:
-We thank God none of the students were hurt
-We thank God there was no wind to spread the fire on the dry grass
-We thank God it only got 2 vehicles (and the old ones at that)
-We thank God it didn’t spread to the building nearby
-We thank God for all the helpers that came running to help in the middle of the night
We all know that 2020 was a difficult year for many of us, and that include the mission. Donations have been down to the lowest they’ve been since the mission’s start 8 years ago. A reliable used Landcruiser, plus the repairs to the bus, and donation to the other ministry to help with the loss of their vehicle will be upwards of $50,000.
Please help us fundraising to replace the car(s) as they important tools for the project. DONATE HERE
